IN3D-Wk2-Lab2- Exercise 2

Reflection
The gear exercise was easy and straight forward, I learned how to extrude the faces out quickly and efficiently. For figure one I followed the image that the word document put as well as creating my own box with one of the flap extracted from the box. This box is a lot easier than the box previously done as it does not require the sophistication of changing the vertex of the flaps.
For figure two is was relatively easy as I selected the faces that I want to extract and I just need to click the extract button to separate the faces from the original box.

Cardboard Box
Reflection
This is by far the hardest modelling I have done from the past week. The tutorial guide was difficult to comprehend at first, and I did alot of trial and error to come up with the final product. The first hurdle I faced was to rotate the flaps outwards to show that the cardboard box is open. I couldn’t understand what the tutorial was explaining about so I asked the help from Mr. douglas. The other hurdles I faced was to bevel the selected edges that the tutorial was instructing me. After re-reading the steps a lot times I realise what I needed. Making the up flaps is also something that I need to redo a few times before getting the hang of it. Overall this exercise uses alot of trial and error before the completing the end product.
I tried adding texture to the object and I like the end product of it .

Block Bridge
Blocks
Added Texture
Reflection
I enjoyed these part of the exercise as I learned how to bevel the object to allow it to look like a block model. The tutorial was easy to understand, however my block bridge have a slight problem as the lower portion of the bevel was not level, one side of it was higher than the other. Thanks to Mr. Douglas, the bevel was level again. Other than the slight problem with the block bridge, I had problem beveling the top and bottom of the cylinder, after asking for advise I realise my mistake of beveling the whole cylinder, I should only select the rounded edges of the upper and lower portion of the cylinder before clicking on the bevel button. Once I learn what my mistake was, it was easier for my next exercise which was to make a toy train model. I had fun making the train model and I used the boolean function taught before to create the hole for the blue part of the block.
I manage to add the colours to the block to make it brighter than the original shading colour. Other than beveling the blocks, I tried adding a wooden texture to the block.

Reflection
For this E-Learning exercise, I am task to do a rounded edge model as well as trying out the different types of boolean function. First I would talk about the rounded edge.
At first when I was watching the tutorial on the steps to create the rounded edge I was comfortable with the instructions and manage to complete the front part of the tutorial. However when the real exercise came about where they only showed me what i needed to do for this exercise, I was stun by it. I couldn’t make out how to make the edges the way the example model was made but i tried my best therefore the image above was the end product of my trial and error.
Now i will be moving on to the boolean function. For this exercise it was very simple and straight forward, I had no problem understand how the boolean function works. I feel that this exercise would help me in for future task on modeling as it teaches how to cut through an object as well as combing two different objects together.

Exercise 2 – Funny Face
Reflection
I have learned from this exercise that making an animation to move together with the wav file is not easy as the timing of the sound and the movement of the mouth must be exact. I feel that I have tried my best to make sure that the animation and the wav file are the same when you play it .

Different forms of these buildings |
|
|
Prison |
Toontown |
| Both prisons in 1 and 2 have a rather long form of structure as it seems that the prison never ends. | Both Toontown 1 and 2 have a short structure. |
| In prison 1, the building seems to have repetition of shapes this seems to suggest that the building is rather dull thus making the building structure look rather negative. | In Toontown 1 and 2 have uses different shapes in the buildings example triangle, oval etc. There seems to suggest a positive atmosphere. |
| The scales for both prisons are large with a large amount of open space. The open space is needed to allow inmates in the prison to roam during their daily break period; also the open space allows prison officers to watch for any trespasser that might want to breach in the cell or to observe inmates from escaping. | The scale for both are slightly smaller than the prison 1 and 2 as the purpose of Toontown are targeted at family mainly children. |
